High Desert Giants

~Flemish X

for Utility
and Pets~

"High Desert Giant Rabbits" our line of Flemish mixed with a hint of feral rabbit.
The idea being natural selection made a high desert specialist, like a mustang horse, this adds life span and hardiness to the flemish line. These guys make amazing pets, or stock for utility/small homestead meat n pelt breeding programs. This project started when a local feral domestic rabbit landed in a live trap, but stood out for his big size, beautiful wild-type coat and build, and high level of intelligence. I kept him, tamed him, named him "Jack Rabbit", and he founded this line of rabbits mixed with pure Flemish does (who can be seen in the retired section of the "our rabbits" page.)

Silver

"High Desert Giant" doe F3, out of Blackburry and Cascadia's "Blue Spruce". She looks like a flemish but, unlike her tame siblings, has a streak of adventure, an independent intelligence, from her feral great grandpa...so I kept her. This loco lady is so smart i have to keep her hutch and run area extra secured, as she escaped upwards of half a dozen times from various situations once even leaving the safety of our multiple perimeter fence and being grabbed by two big dogs, any rabbit hobbiest's worst fear. I ran and out grabbed her in absolute awe she was unscathed and her heart held up (soft mouthed dogs i guess, but most rabbits will suffer a heart attack even being teased by predatory animals from a distance). So this absolute beast "super rabbit" is just what the "high desert giant" line is aiming for. Interested to see her babies starting spring 2022. Not for sale.

Introducing desert-bred Rabbits
for genetic diversity

We welcome Merry and Pippin (pictured above: two black booted does with beautiful molted undersides) to add diversity to our High Desert line. These guys come from the desert out east. Born to a feral rabbit, possibly Rex mixes with velvet-soft fur! Their temperaments are also velvet-soft, as the whole litter was rescued/raised by a little girl.

Pictured below, our "High Desert" buck Merlin a baby 75% flemish with one blue eye and one half blue half brown eye! He has an absolutly wonderful temperament to go with his flashy looks.

"Calaca" a broken agouti (charlie) doe 63% flemish 37% local feral, out of a Pippin daughter and purebred Douglas Fur. This pattern is unique for a flemish mix, this lovely lady will be a year old this spring. Watch for her first litter with Merlin for bold colorful flem mixes!

Retired High Desert Giants

Blackburry

"High Desert Giant" doe F2. "Mr.Fox" x "Strawberry". She looks and acts like a flemish but, carries a rainbow of colors and has some silver hairs / ticking on her sides making her not appear show quality (even if she was purebred, of course she's not, feral grandpa). Throws sweet babies. Good momma. Retired.

Big Momma (brown) and Strawberry (blonde)

Does F1, out of Denali a white flemish doe, and a local feral buck "Jack Rabbit". The feral's sandy wild coat passed on to these huge sisters, who are sweet and calm like a Flemish. Amazing mommas!! Retired/adopted.

Mr.Fox

Buck F1 , "Acacia" a steel flemish doe, and a local feral buck "Jack Rabbit". The local feral tamed down but remained crafty and cat-like. This passed on to Mr.Fox as he undoes latches and creates other mischief. But is sweet and calm like a Flemish. Retired/adopted.
